GENRE: FANTASY, ROMANCE

REVIEW: 2.5 STARS OUT OF 5

Alex Flinn's Beastly is a modern re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. It takes place in present day New York City. Although Flinn brings a few original elements to Beastly, overall it had a predictable storyline and ending. Same underlying tones. It had no element of surprise nor did it keep me on the edge of my seat, however Beastly is a cute story. That's how I can best describe this book: cute. I would recommend this book to those who have a love for the story of Beauty and the Beast or modern fairy tales. The book has a great message of what beauty is and where it truly lies. But who doesn't know this already? Same robust message that we learned from Disney's Beauty and the Beast in 1992. We get it. I scored the book how I did, not because I think it's a horrible book, but because it is far from being a masterpiece. I've heard this story many times before and this is not my favorite version.
